This one comes up a lot with Indian students, and it causes real, avoidable stress. So let us be blunt: ACCA does not offer an Indian variant of the Taxation paper. If a website or an agent has told you to study for an India-specific TX paper, they are describing something that does not exist.
What you actually sit
For Taxation (TX) and Advanced Taxation (ATX), the option you sit is the UK variant, and it is the one we teach. That is the standard route for students in India, and it is nothing to worry about. The UK tax rules are taught from scratch in the course. You are not expected to arrive already knowing them.
Why the confusion happens
ACCA does offer a small number of country-specific tax variants for certain jurisdictions, so it is easy to assume India is one of them. It is not. The mix-up usually comes from someone half-remembering that variants exist, without checking the list.
The practical effect is that some students waste time hunting for India tax material that was never going to appear in an exam. Do not spend a single evening on that. Learn the UK variant properly and you are preparing for the exam you will actually sit.
If you are still unsure
Exam rules are exactly the kind of thing that should come from someone who has sat the papers, not from a forum post. If you are choosing your optional papers or planning your Taxation route, message us and we will tell you straight, including if a different optional paper would suit you better than Tax at all.
