Almost everyone starting ACCA begins here. BT is the entry point to the qualification and assumes no prior study. It also suits anyone with partial exemptions who still needs this paper to complete Applied Knowledge.
Course overview

BT is the context paper. Before you learn to record transactions or cost a product, it explains what a business is, how it's structured and governed, what the accounting function actually does inside it, and the ethical standards that sit over all of it. Technology and internal control run through the syllabus rather than sitting off to one side.
It's broad rather than deep, and that shapes how it should be studied. It's also an on-demand exam, so you can sit it when you're ready. We teach it live with a fixed rhythm so it doesn't stretch out longer than it needs to.

How to study it

BT is the one ACCA paper where breadth beats depth, and the examining team says so directly: learn something about every topic on the syllabus rather than going deep on a few, and spread your time evenly across topics.
That advice matters because of the exam's shape. Section A alone is 46 questions worth 76 marks and can come from anywhere in the syllabus, so a gap in a topic you skipped costs you marks you cannot recover elsewhere. Wide, even coverage is the strategy, and our class plan is built that way.
What the exam rewards

Recall and recognition applied to short business scenarios, at pace. There is no partial credit in Section A, and with 46 questions to get through the skill is answering confidently and moving on rather than deliberating. Students who fail BT usually did not run out of ability. They left topics untouched.

Common questions
Is BT the easiest ACCA paper?

It's the most accessible starting point, with no prior knowledge assumed and no heavy calculation. That is not the same as easy. The syllabus is wide, and students who treat it casually and skip topics are the ones who fail it.
Is BT the same as FBT?

The syllabus is shared. BT is the ACCA Qualification paper and FBT is the Foundations in Accountancy equivalent, examined the same way.
Do I need a business or commerce background?

No. BT starts from what an organisation is and builds from there. A background helps you move faster, but nothing is assumed.
When can I sit the exam?

BT is on demand, so you book it when you're ready rather than waiting for a session. We'll tell you when we think you are.
Should I take BT first?

Usually yes. It gives you the vocabulary and context that FA and MA then build on, and it's the gentlest introduction to how ACCA exams are structured and delivered.
Is there much technology content?

Yes, more than the paper's reputation suggests. Technology, internal control and information security run through the syllabus, particularly in the accounting systems capability, and they're examinable.
How big are the batches?

Which topics are most important in BT?

There is no shortcut here, and that is the honest answer. Section A is 46 questions worth 76 marks drawn from anywhere in the syllabus, so ACCA's examining team advises learning something about every topic and spreading your time evenly rather than going deep on a few. The topics students most often leave uncovered are the later ones: leadership and managing people, personal effectiveness, and professional ethics.
How do I pass BT?

Cover the whole syllabus and practise objective test questions in volume. BT is not conceptually hard, so failure almost always comes from skipped topics rather than difficult ones. Work through questions across every capability rather than rereading notes on the areas you already like.
Do I book the ACCA exam myself?
